Our Services, Treatments, and Specialties
Orthopedic Physical Therapy
Our physical therapists specialize in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal injuries that could have been a result of an injury, surgery, an accident, or illness. Several of our therapists are Board Certified Clinical Specialists in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, and all of our therapists have engaged in continuing education programs specializing in orthopedics. Our therapists are prepared to treat injuries of the foot, ankle, knee, leg, hip, back, spine, hand, wrist, arm, shoulder, neck, and more.
Manual Physical Therapy
Manual physical therapy is where the therapist performs skilled, specific hands-on techniques to help reduce pain, increase tissue extensibility, increase joint mobility, reduce muscle spasm, and reduce soft tissue swelling, to help the patient regain normal movement and function. In addition, many of our therapists are trained in cupping and scraping techniques. Cupping involves placing cups on the skin, which increase blood flow and reduce pain and inflammation. Scraping is a technique in which the physical therapist will use a tool to gently massage soft tissue areas in order to increase range of motion, increase flexibility, reduce swelling, and break up scar tissue.
Pre and Post Surgical Rehabilitation
Physical Therapy is an essential component to prepare for and recover from surgery. Prior to surgery, physical therapy can help reduce pain, improve strength and range of motion, and prepare for your surgery and the recovery process. Following orthopedic surgeries, physical therapy allows you to recover quicker by helping you regain movement, strength, and balance with the ultimate goal of having the patient engage back into their normal daily activities. Our physical therapists can also provide treatment to reduce pain and inflammation through methods such as heat, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound. Our therapists will provide exercises for you to do at home, which will allow you to carry over the recovery process and prevent re-injury.
Pre and Post
Sport Specific Rehabilitation
If you are a high school, college, or elite athlete, or a weekend warrior, our physical therapists help athletes rehabilitate after an injury or surgery so they will be able to return to competition quickly and safely (whether you are an overhead athlete, or you are involved in soccer, basketball, running, etc). Athletes that we treat are rehabbing from surgery, ligament injury, muscle strains, rotator cuff injuries, tendonitis, and spinal injury. Our therapists engage in manual therapy in addition to providing sport specific exercises that will help athletes regain strength and mobility and allow them to return to sports and recreational activities.
Lower Back and Neck Pain (McKenzie Method)
Many of our therapists specialize in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment. The McKenzie Method emphasizes self-treatment and patient involvement for acute and chronic spine, back, and neck injuries. This method allows for you to be highly involved in your treatment plan. Our therapists will evaluate your condition, provide exercises for you to complete, and engage in manual therapy if needed. The therapists will give direction and ensure that your exercises will improve imbalances and spinal stabilization, all of which will help prevent future back and neck injuries.
Back and Neck
We can help reduce pain through movement activities and hands-on treatment. Physical therapy is a safer and more sustainable alternative to prescription medication and opioids. Our individualized treatment plans can help patients diminish or eliminate their pain through various techniques performed in the clinic as well as independently at home. As physical therapists, we navigate multiple factors that affect pain—physiological and psychosocial— and put together programs based on the factors that affect each individual.
Dizziness and Vertigo / Fall Prevention
We can help treat those suffering from vertigo and other dizziness and balance difficulties, including vestibular disorders. Our therapists provide exercises and treatment designed to help improve balance, eye coordination, strengthening, and range of motion. Treatments improve stability and posture and help decrease symptoms. Balance insufficiencies and deficits are the number one cause of falls in the older population. Engaging in physical therapy to address balance and coordination issues can prevent falls and help patients avoid further injuries.
We excel at getting our patients back to work. Our therapists help patients quickly return to work by providing manual therapy and exercises designed to reduce pain, increase strength and improve range of motion. Our rehabilitation program will allow you to return to work related activities in a safe manner.
Telehealth is the method of delivering medical care remotely through the internet between a healthcare provider and the patient. This allows you to receive much needed medical care at the convenience of your own home, using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. Telehealth works through a secure connection between the medical provider and patient. At Fitness Forum, we use a secure portal in which to communicate. Telehealth visits with Fitness Forum are effective due to the face to face interaction. The therapist can see the patient’s movements, instruct them on form and progression of treatments and answer questions and/or concerns. This gives the patient immediate feedback by the therapist in real time. Telehealth visits through Fitness Forum gives you another way to receive care that is safe, effective and cost-efficient. Telehealth is covered by insurance!
Fitness Forum utilizes INDIBA® Activ technology in our Manlius office. During treatment with INDIBA® in the acute phase of an injury, the body’s natural repair process is accelerated, regenerating new cells, promoting oxygen creation and encouraging blood flow. Using INDIBA® speeds recovery time while decreasing inflammation and lessening the percentage of damaged tissue.
